Bollywood hero Shah Rukh Khan's youthful charm impressed many Indians as he took over as quizmaster on a hit TV show though some said he was not a patch on Amitabh Bachchan, the megastar whom he replaced.
Khan hosted his first show of "Kaun Banega Crorepati", an Indian version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire", on Monday, with the nation's celebrity-obsessed media running polls ahead of the broadcast on whether he could fill Bachchan's shoes.
Some Indian newspapers said Khan, reportedly the highest paid actor in Bollywood, managed to win the hearts of viewers with his boyish enthusiasm and funny remarks, much in contrast to the serious air adopted by the 64-year-old Bachchan.
"While King Khan may lack the gravitas of Amitabh Bachchan, he brings to the show his own brand of youthful charm and self deprecating humour which Star Plus hopes will attract a new generation of viewers," reported the Hindustan Times.
